Membership Musings

by Brad Kennison, Membership Chair

January/February 2020. In 2019 Green Mountain Region of PCA had a strong year for membership adding 24 new primary members (owners) ending the year with a total of 186. With an increase in primary membership we would expect to see a corresponding increase in family or affiliate members, however, there was only a small increase in this area.

During this slow season take a few minutes to log into your PCA account www.pca.org and add a family member or friend as an affiliate member. In both cases, there is no additional cost to add these members; however, they must be 18 years of age or older. As a club we strive to create a family atmosphere welcoming family and friends to join owners in the activities of the club.

Another added benefit is the PCA Junior’s program where members can include a child, step-child, grandchild, niece or nephew under age 18. Again this benefit is absolutely free to members. PCA Juniors will receive a personalized welcome package in the mail.

In this month’s publication I would like to highlight PCA Dual Membership options. Some of our members split their time between two different locations and desire to participate in local region events. PCA permits membership in two different regions by paying the $46 membership fee twice. This can be accomplished easily with a call to PCA.

There is one other option depending on a region’s policy. Some regions have a Dual Membership option available if you are a member of another PCA Region. It is best practice to inquire of the local region if that option is available. In most cases the region Dual Membership is generally half the cost of a full PCA membership. The benefit to Dual Membership is inclusion in the region’s email list and notification of events. Although a PCA member can participate in any region event, quite often region members have first choice. At this juncture Green Mountain Region does not have a Dual Membership option. If you are a GMR member and would like to participate in another regions events I would encourage you to inquire if they have a Dual Membership option.

If you own a different Porsche than when you first became a member your vehicle information may be out dated. Please take a few minutes to log into your PCA account, select edit and membership to update your vehicle information.

A big thank you to all GMR members for your continued effort in growing our membership. Member referrals are by far the most effective tool in connecting Porsche owners to PCA. Keep up the good work!Just a reminder, if your membership is soon to expire or has lapsed, please take this opportunity to renew online. It’s quick and easy!I encourage you to contact me with any membership question or if you would like me to engage with someone interested in our club.

December 2019. In October your GMR Board of Directors elected me as the club’s new Membership Chairman. To communicate our work in the membership area I plan to send out regular communications or “Musings.” My goal in these publications will be to highlight topics of interest to members of Green Mountain Region of PCA, how to maximize your PCA member benefits and bring on board family or friends to join in the Porsche experience.

First, I would like to welcome all of the new members who joined GMR in 2019. As of today, we have 183 Primary and 117 Affiliate members for a total of 299. In the first ten months of the year the club has grown from 163 Primary and 107 Affiliate members for a 12% increase in membership. As a Porsche owner, co-owner or lessee of record you are considered the Primary me mber(s).

One of the many perks a Primary member enjoys is the addition of a family member or friend to be your co-pilot. A family active member would be classified as Co-Member and someone other than a family member would be considered an Affiliate member. In both cases, there is no additional cost to add these members, however, they must be 18 years of age or older. Additionally, they will receive their own user account at www.PCA.org . If you would like to add a Co-Member or Affiliate member, send an email to membership@PCA.org or call PCA directly. Be sure to include the person’s full name, relationship to member and email address.

If you have been an active Primary member and find yourself without a Porsche for one reason or another your classification will change. In this case you would retain your membership only to be classified as an Associate member, which is defined as any active member who ceases to own, lease or co-own a Porsche while in good standing, or any person, employed by a Porsche-oriented business, interested in the Club and its objectives having paid Club dues and fees as required. A person of the associate member’s family who has been a family-active member may continue as a family-associate member similarly.

For young Porsche enthusiasts there is an exciting program called “PCA Juniors” for your child, grandchild, niece or nephew under age 18. It was created so kids can enjoy PCA events, learn about Porsches and build an enthusiasm much like their parents. The only requirement is registration by an active PCA member and it’s FREE! Simply log-in to your PCA account, select membership and then click on PCA Juniors at the bottom of the left column. As an added note, for those who have a different summer and winter address and would like to continue receiving Panorama magazine where they reside, simply change your mailing address in the account section. In the first address box, uncheck primary but leave your address as is. In the second address box, add your winter address and check primary. When returning to Vermont, log-in to your account and uncheck primary in your winter address and check primary in the first address box. Be sure to select SAVE at the bottom of the page. You may also call PCA directly and they will handle the change for you. For timely mailings provide PCA with one month lead time.

The increase in GMR membership is in large part due to your engagement with those driving Porsches who are not members. Vermont has in excess of six hundred Porsches (yes, that is 600!) but only 182 Primary PCA members. Talking to a Porsche owner who is not currently a member, new member referrals, and sharing a copy of the PCA application brochure are by far the most effective resources in generating new members. Having a few brochures in your glove compartment will ensure you always have a resource to leave with a potential new member. I will have PCA application brochures at all events or you can contact me directly.

Just a reminder, if your membership is soon to expire please take this opportunity to renew online. It’s quick and easy!
